The world is changing at an unprecedented pace, and artificial intelligence (AI) is at the forefront of this transformation. As AI becomes increasingly integrated into business, education, and everyday life, understanding its principles and applications is no longer optional—it’s essential. That’s why I am honored to be an instructor in Harper College’s new Foundations of AI course, a program designed to equip students with critical AI skills and prepare them for the evolving workforce.
Empowering Learners Through AI Education
Harper College has taken a bold step forward with its Innovation Accelerator, a unit dedicated to developing emerging technology programs. As part of its Emerging Technologies Pathways Initiative, this initiative focuses on building Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and Cloud Computing career pathways that meet industry demands. Funded by a $1.6 million U.S. Department of Labor grant, the program offers multiple entry points for learners of all backgrounds—whether they are beginners, career changers, or professionals looking to upskill.
Being the only African American instructor in this program carries significant weight for me. Representation matters, and ensuring that AI education is inclusive, diverse, and accessible is part of my mission. I believe that AI should serve as a bridge to opportunity, not a barrier, and I am committed to equipping learners with the skills and confidence they need to thrive.
Beyond the Classroom: My Journey in AI
Teaching AI at Harper College is just one facet of my work in this space. I am also the author of the upcoming book “The Human’s Guide to AI Mastery: Navigating Technology with Wisdom and Purpose,” which aims to provide a faith-driven, empowering perspective on AI. My goal is to demystify AI, helping readers understand not just how it works but how it can be used responsibly, ethically, and effectively in various aspects of life and business.
In addition, I am building The Valorian Theory, a framework designed to help individuals navigate AI adoption with purpose, integrity, and innovation. Through this work, I seek to transform AI education into an engaging, hands-on experience that encourages learners to think critically and ethically about how AI shapes our world.
Beyond AI education, I also serve as a business and workforce development consultant, helping organizations implement strategic technology initiatives, digital transformation, and AI integration. My expertise in business and corporate training, workforce upskilling, and technology adoption ensures that businesses and professionals alike can confidently navigate the digital landscape.
Additionally, my role as a Google for Education Innovator plays a significant part in this initiative. My work focuses on integrating AI-driven learning tools into educational frameworks, ensuring that students and professionals have access to cutting-edge AI applications that enhance their learning experiences. This initiative aligns with my passion for leveraging technology to create engaging, accessible, and transformative education opportunities.
AI and Leadership: Shaping the Future of Innovation
AI isn’t just about algorithms and machine learning—it’s about people. It’s about equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills to lead in an AI-driven world. That’s why I’m dedicated to bridging the digital divide, particularly for underrepresented communities, by ensuring AI literacy, business, and workforce development reach those who need it most.
Through my involvement and work in the technology sector, I aim to inspire a new generation of AI-conscious leaders, educators, and professionals. I want to see more individuals from diverse backgrounds enter the AI space, not just as consumers of technology but as creators, innovators, and thought leaders.
