The Fall 2024 R.I.S.E. Tech Immersion Program, now in its 9th cohort, is a six-week immersive virtual digital skills training program originally founded by Dr. Eddie L. Kornegay, former Director of R.I.S.E. Designed to create a technology employment pipeline from underserved communities to careers in the tech sector or companies that rely on advanced digital skills, the program equips students with essential knowledge to succeed in today’s digital world. Supported by the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA), this program helps bridge the gap for those seeking opportunities in technology.
Angela Valentine leads the program as the primary instructor, delivering in-depth training on cloud-based office productivity tools and website development. She is joined by Min. Shamichael Hallman of Code for the Kingdom and Alton Glass, CEO of GRX Immersive Labs, who guide participants through innovative approaches to problem-solving, such as Design Thinking and VR/XR immersive storytelling. The course provides students with an immersive experience in virtual and augmented reality, along with an introduction to artificial intelligence, giving them insight into the latest technological advancements. The program culminates in a capstone project, where student teams demonstrate their newly acquired skills. With a focus on "Using Technology for Social Impact," participants gain a broad range of digital skills, opening doors to both personal and professional growth.
Participants of the program are also awarded scholarships for the Google Career Certificates program, where they can obtain certificates in Data Analytics, Project Management, UX Design, IT Support, Digital Marketing & E-commerce, and Cybersecurity. These certificates further enhance participants' qualifications for high-demand, tech-driven careers.
Registration is currently open for youth and adult learners, ages 14 and up, with classes starting on Saturday, September 28. Classes are held online via Zoom every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central Time. Participants who meet the program’s qualifications and successfully complete the course may be eligible for stipends.
