Slaying the Giant: Facing AI Without Fear

Slaying the AI Giant

For many, artificial intelligence feels like a modern-day Goliath—an overwhelming, towering force that threatens to change the world as we know it. Some fear it will take jobs, replace human creativity, or become too powerful to control. But if history—and more importantly, faith—has taught us anything, it is that no giant is beyond defeat, especially as a child of God.

The story of David and Goliath is one of courage, faith, and wisdom in the face of fear. A young shepherd boy stood before a fully armed warrior, a giant who had intimidated Israel’s armies into paralysis. Goliath represented an unstoppable force, one that seemed impossible to defeat. But David didn’t shrink back in fear like the rest of Israel’s army. He stepped forward with nothing but a sling, five smooth stones, and unwavering trust in God.

Goliath was taken down not by brute strength, but by courage, boldness, and faith in God.

"Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied." (1 Samuel 17:45, KJV)

AI as a Goliath? Or an Opportunity?

In today’s world, AI often feels like that giant. It’s massive, complex, and seemingly unstoppable in its advance. Some look at it and say, “We are like grasshoppers in its sight!” (Numbers 13:33). They fear the worst—that AI will replace them, outthink them, or leave them irrelevant.

But what if, instead of fearing AI, we approached it like David did?

  • David didn’t fight Goliath on the giant’s terms. He didn’t wear Saul’s armor or wield a heavy sword. Instead, he used the skills he had mastered in the fields as he attended his sheep—his ability of a steady aim and his trust in God. We don’t need to fight AI with fear. Instead, we must lean into the wisdom, boldness, and discernment that God has already equipped us with.

  • David didn’t run away; he ran toward the battle. He saw an opportunity for victory where others saw certain defeat. We must not shy away from AI, but seek to master it with courage, learning how to use it wisely and ethically.

  • David’s faith was his greatest weapon. He didn’t trust in his own strength but in the God who had been faithful to him. He knew the battle belonged to the Lord. If God has positioned us to be leaders in this moment of technological change, He has also equipped us to navigate it with wisdom, purpose and for His glory.

The Five Stones of AI Mastery

Just as David picked up five smooth stones, here are five foundational “stones” we can carry when facing AI:

  1. Knowledge – Learn how AI works. Lack of knowledge breeds fear, but understanding empowers action.

  2. Discernment – Not all AI is created equal. Use discernment to engage with AI in ways that reflect integrity, responsibility, and Kingdom purpose.

  3. Creativity – AI may be powerful, but it lacks the divine spark and human creativity. Use AI as a tool to enhance your skills, not as a replacement.

  4. Stewardship – Technology is a gift. How we use it determines whether it serves humanity or diminishes it.

  5. Faith – Trust that God has placed you in this moment in history for a reason. Your role is not to shrink back, but to step forward with courage.

The Goliath of Our Time Will Fall

David’s victory over Goliath wasn’t just a personal win—it was a victory for all of Israel. Today, how we face AI will impact future generations. If we shrink back in fear, we allow the enemy to control the narrative. But if we move forward with wisdom, faith, and skill, we will shape a future where technology serves humanity rather than dominates it.

The battle is not against AI itself—it is against fear, complacency, and misuse. And just as David’s victory was certain because of Who fought for him, we, too, can stand confident that we are not alone in this era of transformation.

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1:7, KJV)

The question is: Will you hide in fear before the giant, or will you rise up and slay it?

It's a fixed fight. The battle belongs to the Lord and I believe AI was created to be a tool for God's glory. But the choice to pursue victory rests with us.

What will you choose?
